They are all getting pushed down this route and, if they make a decision before being pushed, they can make an informed decision and choose where they want to join, potentially. Our local secondary implied that, without voluntarily making a similar move, they will get steamrollered into an academy of someone else's choosing later on.

They tried to sell it as an opportunity for cross training of staff, as the academy is fairly broad. Given the school has no 6th form, I asked if this meant better (A-Level) teachers coming here too - no, it is just for their staff to go and pick up skills from them. I didn't like that answer particularly.

Also, the deputy head had previously stated that she had joined the school as it wasn't in an academy, so I asked her how she felt. She gave me a politically safe answer, which told me all I needed to know.

Basically, they are jumping before they get pushed in the hope they at least have SOME say in where they go.
