They basically do that in Belgium...

My ex wife, who was a gyno, was partially sponsored through her specialisation in Antwerp by Pharma companies. They would take the doctors out to dinner, contribute directly to funding their specialisation placement, and in return? Well, drop the name of our product in your white papers etc. I was not comfortable with that at all. Is illegal in NL but not (at least wasn't) in Belgium.
