That Guardian article about us yesterday by NCFC fan Paul Macinnes...
The article itself was nothing revolutionary.
However there was this comment in the comments section that I find interesting. Especially if it's true...
"There's some fallacies in the article regarding our finances.
I'm a shareholder at City, and always give the accounts a close read. Although the latest figures do show a large hole that requires filling, most of the work was already done last summer. 30 million slashed from the annual wage bill.
Failing to get promoted this season will leave us with another 9 million hole to fill in order to break even. And we've got two of our highest earners in the last year of their contracts, in Wes Hoolahan and Alex Tettey. Both will go, and although it'll be a shame as they're long servants and fan favourites (and Wes is a little magician!), they're both old and easily replaceable from the current squad.
There's also a number of sellable assets who could plug that gap in the finances. No Norwich fan wants to see Maddison or Pritchard leave, so hopefully not one of them, but the likes of Klose, Naismith, and Oliveira could make some decent cash and wouldn't be a huge loss to the squad.
We probably face a few years in the second tier, but no shame in that. It's arguably our rightful place.
But we're not in any danger of huge financial issues."
This person seems to speak with some kind of authority on it, more than your average shareholder/fan. I have wondered through this season if we are really going to be in as much financial trouble as has been made out, or if that has been a ploy to drive some harder bargains. I wonder how much of this comment is actually true, maybe someone more in the know than myself could answer?
