It works OK, as long as you appreciate & tolerate the limitations ie. surprisingly few trains (& destinations) and fairly slow with frequent long delays (west coast to Missouri is around 36 hrs).

HOWEVER you get to see some spectacular scenery, meet a few Normals, and decompress in a unique way.

Also, as they run a standard pricing structure you can make bookings at quite late notice with no financial penalty.

Any ideas on the routes you are considering?
