173 years ago when I got married
(well, ok, about 25 years ago) we did it on the cheap: church hall and a fork buffet and no evening do or expensive venue. Cost a lot by our terms then but not much by normal standards I guess - but it was very "us" back when there was an "us". Still a good couple of grand. My MIL made my wife's dress; my Mum made ties for me, best man, ushers. That kind of thing.
