thankfully internal flights are a lot more common and far cheaper now, though I do enjoy seeing the incredible scenery by road, just not for more than 6-7 hours at a time.

I really enjoyed Huaraz, Trujillo, Cajamarca and Chachapoyas in the north a couple of years ago. There are some quite literally breathtakingly beautiful places up there and very few Europeans and N. Americans around.

Apparently Ayachucho is similarly neglected by the hoardes heading to Machu Picchu, so should be fantastic
