I always try not to damage the DPC if poss. But I doubt if it makes any difference in

practice unless you've got a really serious damp problem. You could synthaprufe it if you were really worried I suppose.
What's the job? I've only ever laid dwarf walls with a sole plate to build timber frame house extensions. I take it you're doing something different.
