Yes, if it's been subject to an insurance claim Cat C or D but an engine could have been replaced for various reasons. It's just classed as another mechanical part. Like a shock absorber or a clutch..

Imagine if you had bought a Mercedes SLS then found out it had a 2CV engine in it. That would be a reason to be a bit pissed off.
