act, played about 576 games for Man Utd and probably 'commands respect' in the locker room, so I'd like to think he'd have enough about him to take on the duties of a leader type.

Kolo Toure, Leon Osman and Steven Pienaar also out of contract, can't say any of those appeal, even if they would join, as their physical playing limitations are not problems we need.

I just want a midfield lynchpin with a cool head, tidy pass and a bit of a gob on him, is that so much to ask?
