A lot of times you have to submit a 'planting plan' for want of a better word

to the council when you build and they approve it so chances are depending on where they are if you cut them down and they can be seen you could be fined. Last place I built I had a willow in the front garden and the wind brought it down when we were on holiday to such a degree I took the whole thing out. Got a letter a week later asking for an explanation as to why it was gone - luckily I took some photo's showing why and they were OK. They will have a 'Tree person' in the council though so depends if they have a TPO Tree preservation Order on it. Also wife just rreminded that we had to replace the willow too.
