Trying to keep clean sheets with an utterly s**t defence at the expense of anything else
is what sent us spiralling towards relegation in 2014. It was far too negative and meant we rarely ever looked like winning enough games. We're not a WBA or a Sunderland who have some quality going forward to make the most of limited chances.
The obsession with clean sheets is ridiculous anyway. We kept 3 in 2011-2012 and had our best season in the prem points wise in the modern era.
The issue is winning enough games to stay up. Conceding 4 goals over the last 4 games, for example, was not the major issue, because we still only picked up 1 point due to wasting numerous chances. Unless you're expecting us to keep clean sheets in all of those games, which is just f**king stupid. We parked the bus in the Leicester game and still lost. We shouldn't be parking the bus against Swansea in a winnable game.
We need to be better organised defensively, but not at the expense of good creativity in the team just for a useless stat which means nothing if we still can't win enough games.
