In any case, no way could an internal investigation be used to establish Johnson's guilt or otherwise (how would you feel if you had pleaded Not Guilty to a drink drive charge, and yet an internal investigation at work found you guilty?).

The trigger for any sacking would probably be "found guilty in a criminal court" (ergo his guilty plea)
