All sound advice!

A few additional thoughts

Edinburgh Castle is great, especially on a clear day (it's right in the centre so terrific views)

The zoo!! I love Edinburgh Zoo, childhood memories

Check out what's on at The Stand (comedy) or the Queen's Hall (music of all sorts)

Shopping in Victoria Street. Terrific selection of independent shops, from bookshops to fashion to cheese.

Go up the Scott Monument (if it's open)

Head for the hills!! Great walking in the Pentland Hills, just outside. Lunch at the Flotterstone Inn.

If you're one of the Wrath Beer Ponces, go to the Hanging Bat. And Bramble is a buzzy cocktail bar, it's where the jeunesse doree booze it up the Gitlets tell me.

Tea in Jenners! Like Bonds only posher and Scottish. If there's an ancient old girl in pearls and a tweed twinset, that's probably one of my great aunts
