They should have worker protection as part of the process

Sad to say this kind of indentured slavery is not unique to Qatar, it happens in many other UAE states also. It's one of the reasons I won't holiday in Dubai, ever. Any big plc now has supply chain stuff like worker conditions in its big tenders and it beggars belief that FIFA doesn't too. The basics should cover things like on-site safety, worker conditions and pay, child labour and so on. if urban regeneration is a key outcome of these events, as surely it must be, then the definitions of sustainability need to cover basic worker rights too.
