the main Tory message in the last couple of years, espoused by all their prominent MP's and their media is how weak Miliband is, and how he would be a pushover as a PM.
That message would get completely disproven in a couple of hours if they had a 1v1 debate, where Miliband would bring a lot more substance to his arguments than Cameron. It's better for Cameron to look like a bit of a coward than to look weaker than Miliband in front of the nation.
