I went through a similar situation with someone who was once a very good friend. She had considerable savings while I had nothing - and yet she willingly screwed me over to the tune of ?2k and threatened further legal action over something for which she was liable for. I was forced to take out a loan to avoid eviction, I paid her off, she was happy that she'd saved some money but was then somewhat surprised and annoyed when I instantly told her that she'd put a value on our friendship, that I had purchased that friendship from her and that I wouldn't be speaking to her again. It wasn't about the money, it was about how that person prioritised money over friendship and the lengths that they would go to avoid paying her share of something - you don't need people like that in your life. She still doesn't understand exactly what it is she did wrong but it doesn't matter to me. Although I'm financially worse off as a result, I get by. She, on the other hand, is a good friend worse off and that, at the end of the day, is a bigger problem for her, as she'll soon find that she doesn't have many of them when she realises she needs them.
