Well, I can't speak for Heaton, but there are plausible possibilities.

Maybe he didn't know much about the case, and now having learned about it has reconsidered his position. That's plausible and possible.

Maybe he hasn't considered the impact on society of encouraging prehistoric attitudes to women, and now having reflected, has changed his mind. That's plausible. And possible.

Maybe he's seen the attitudes and behaviours of Evans' supporters and decided that the likes of his most vocal supporters need very badly to be publically challenged, even if that means a suboptimal outcome for Sheff Utd or Evans himself. Again, plausible, possible.

Maybe he's just changed his mind. What a c**t. Shoot him in the face.
