I wouldn't do that. I'd approach it in the morning

If you see her getting on, and there's a space. Go and sit there

Act surprised when you see her. Pick a day when you've got things to say though. Have at least 5 topics too, otherwise the first one could be her just answering politely, and you feeling uncomfortable

So sit next to her, act surprised and go

"morning"

Her "morning"

You "do you know, we must have passed each other on the same commute so many times in the last year"

Her "really?" or "yeah I've seen you"

"I work at x, in the x, where do you ?" *many avenues of chat there, hours, years worked there, get on with your colleagues, do you like it? Did you finish uni and start working there, what uni did you go to? what did you study, I've got about 35k of loans to pay back, I don't miss being a student, but I loved it at the same time .................."

By the time you've told each other that, you must easilly have some opportunity to further. If it's got that far you can be blunt and go "so, do you live in a shared house now?". That should near enough get you your answer if she's single or not. If she says with friends, you can go "oh, I thought you might live with your partner", then she'll answer that

From there, you are either at your destination and go "we'll no doubt see each other on the way home, thanks for the chat. I'm luisgarcia"

On the way home, you now have a really obvious connection from the journey there "dunno about you, but today can go get bent, I'm knackered. *wait for her reaction*, or go "I don't know about you, but I'll probably have to sky plus x x and x tonight, I'm getting showered and then I'm getting into bed and chilling" *wait for her to agree*. She might connect on the tv you watch. If not you can go "you watch anything when you get in?"

If you're not a wealth of avenues of conversation by then, you'll never be :)
