No, I'm afraid the author doesn't get to decide my criteria for funding charities.

Worthwhile though his criteria are, I reject his assertion that they are *the* criteria for deciding on charitable donations.

I'm not going to be donating to a motor neurone disease charity. No-one's asked me to, apart from in the strictest general sense that all charities are asking everyone, but even in the remote unlikelihood that anyone nominated me for the ice bucket challenge, I'd not donate.

I have a charity I donate to regularly, and then I'll donate to almost any old charity if someone I know is doing a particular event and seeking sponsorship. The author's criteria barely figure among that, although similar considerations are made when someone asks me to sponsor them.
