I don't know

I've never met him or been managed by him. I suspect he knows a lot more about football than you give him credit for.

Why would players respect Steve McLaren? Why would players respect Paul Lambert before he came here? You could go on forever. Players have their own careers to think about and won't just underperform because it's a manager they've not heard of before.
