This B******s About The Cost Of A New Manager
Doncaster et al raise the question that the cost of approaching and appointing a new manager are perhaps prohibitive as compensation might have to be paid to one who is currently in work?
Well Neil, replace the word "compensation" with "transfer fee" and you might find it easier.
Besides, who the hell do you think you'd be "approaching"-Wenger at Arsenal perhaps, else Benitez? Hey, I bet you'd have to pay a big wedge to get Mourinho from Chelsea, is thats what is putting you off?
If we are looking to get, or would be looking to get, a young, ambitious, and, thus far at his level, proven manager, then the clubs and people we'd be approaching are hardly going to be demanding million pound release fees, are they? By that definition, they'd have to be paying them a similar amount, and they can't afford it!
Look at the possibilities-Tilson at Southend for example, you think their demands would be excessive, what would they ask, ?150'000, ?200'000 to release him? You'll happily spend that and more on some ineffective and largely useless player in January, whats the difference?
Would be the same at any club, look at Preston, when clubs were sourcing out Billy Davies (Hearts were one), their C.E was quoting something like ?250'000 for him, I'm sure its the same for lots of working, proven managers at that level, and thats OUR level.
"Can't afford the compensation"-don't give me that! Mind you, if we really, REALLY can't, then questions need to be asked and now!
