In defence of Jonathan Pearce...

I was listening to the 5 Live commentary in the car on the way home last evening.

Connor MacNamara and Pat Nevin had similar confusion over the whole debacle. Their conversation over the goal/no goal debate was almost identical to JP's. I imagine that whatever replay the BBC commentators were watching, was not what everyone else was watching? Pat Nevin kept saying that he hadn't seen a replay yet that conclusively showed the ball had crossed the line.

It can't just be coincidence that both TV and radio commentary teams couldn't figure what was going on at that moment. Radio was also pointing out the technical failure that prevented the national anthems from playing at the start etc... as always there'll be more to this than we know, but why let the truth get in the way of a good story. Having done the same job as those boys in the past, it's a tough gig.
