A few tips for you.
I'm a 'triathlete' in as much as I take part in them although at my age it's a bit pretentious to suggest I'm an athlete of any type! Firstly you say 10K in about 40 mins well that's a very good time so well done. You're right though that current thinking is to warm up, not by stretching, but by slow jogging getting progressively faster as you warm up. Stretching is usually only recommended at the end. The best tip I was given to avoid muscle soreness is to have some sort of protein at the end of a run. I usually have a pint or even two of skimmed milk and it really does work. As regards the triathlon you will help your legs if you practice bricks i.e. Follow a cycle ride with a run straight off the bike. This takes some getting used to and it's good to make sure you have experienced the feeling before. Finally, I'd recommend some weight training with emphasis on your legs and core but not excluding upper body. This again would help your hamstrings and reduce overall soreness after a run. Oh yes, one other thing. Decent trainers definitely make a difference. Hope some of that helps. I'm certainly no expert it's just that I love cycling and triathlon so I have a real interest and in August I'm attempting an Ironman (2.4 mile swim, 112 mile cycle, then marathon). Good luck with your training.
