I think the catchment area, and the loyalty of fans plays a massive part

in this. Recently I read in the local news, that the tourism board of York had been invited to other cities struggling with tourism to teach them why York is such a great success

Um, probably because of the walls covering the city, and the massive minster, and various castles and monuments maybe? No, it must be the hard work of the people employed in tourism
