Not really my point. That's all true which is why you can't plan for things like that. You need to plan to have structures in place which should bring success - in due course. That's a conveyor belt of youth players, financial stability, a decent manager who won't be sacked if we're 13th at Christmas. Or if we're 7th in May.
It seems to me generally that most managerial appointments are shots in the dark - so when things don't go right boards have no conviction that it was a good appointment in the first place to fall back on. So sack 'em and take another shot. And another shot. Fulham-style.
And the point remains that if MacKay is appointed based on a decision taken for the reasons argued on here then if things don't go right then he'll be out quickly.
