Really. It was much, much less a few years ago

When I was growing up watching footie, there was only one that you even knew - the schoolteacher one (whose name I've forgotten).

I went to live in Spain in '94. Couldnt believe how the refs were part of the spectacle there - people had opinions about different refs, knew what they looked like etc. Was completely alien to an English football fan - really weird.

But then over the years, the same has happened here. To the point where some people seem to have more opinions abut refs than players.

Bizarre and rubbish.
