Simon.....it's a terrible and traumatic event for those

Involved (I assume killed from your tone) and witnesses such as yourself.
The trauma should not be underestimated and must be dealt with in some way.
Depends on you as a person who you do this, and the effect it has on you over the next few hours, days and weeks. There is help available if it's required.
Sadly as a anaesthetist dealing with critically ill people routinely in trauma centres I am "desensitised" to some extent but have insight to realise that my position is not normal.
Oh and I still cry and have flashbacks of certain cases.
