he's done alright

It's a tricky job, but Villa are still a big/established enough side that he'd have needed to lose the dressing room to take them down. Took enough people along with him, fair play. Will be interested to see if he can get them to kick on - suspect that they'll beetle around the mid-league until he, or they, get bored.

Too good a manager to fail, but at a club with higher ambitions than resources. They're not going to be out competing tottenham/newcastle/everton anytime soon.
