The point in that piece in that this should, all along, have been about the funding cuts, and the rest was all just a smokescreen anyway. Not sure I really see why Pickles's intervention brought the cuts more into focus. (If anything, I would have thought he's kept Smith and criticism of the EA in the news. Though agree he's also made himself look like a lying, Machiavellian arsehole, too.)
