Actually I've thought of a film I'd recommend to any and everyone, though it's 25 yrs old

I think it's Belarussian, and quite rare, but Jesus What a Film. It's called Come And See, or Idi I Smotri, and it's set during WW2.

Plot Teaser: A young teenage boy leaves home to join the Belarussian army, to help fight off the German Invaders. The local Commanding Officer wordlessly decides he's too young for the horrors ahead, so he tells him to stay and guard the camp, in the company of a slightly older girl. They're alone together when the bombs, and Germans, arrive, and flee together to hide out.

We've all seen Horrors Of War films, but this is really well made, and while most well made war films leave you emotionally affected, this one really hammers it home. You root for the youngsters, you see what they miss in their hurry, you understand what they can't, and you reel at the events of the movie and the realisation that it's not embroidered, not propagandised. It was made in the 80s but because it's set in the 40s it doesn't look dated. Strongly recommended for anyone who likes a film to stay with them for days afterwards.
