Was in Zimbabwe out in the bush and our tour guide told us round the camp fire in the evening. No-one could believe it, it made no sense (surely the US would have shot the planes down?).

We had a bunch of Aussies and Kiwis with us who had friends and relatives working there so it was all a bit fretful. I was one of the few who had mobile signal so had to call my father for confirmation - he worked for GCHQ at the time alongside NSA, so had a few snippets that even the news wasn't yet carrying.

All very glum - watching the tv footage later in a bar was surreal.
