The trouble with 140 characters is that it is impossible to convey what one tries to say. I failed to make the point about free speech I wanted to and rather caused offence and distress. I apologised immediately for the hurt I unintenionally caused.

I regret that I was taken out of context and my comments went viral. My apology and retraction was accepted by Professor Beard. I do not intend to make any further comment"

I am so sorry for any offense I have caused and hope I can be forgiven.
