I do wonder about the motives behind those that so vocally chastise the players

Do they genuinely think it is a constructive thing to do and will result in improving team performance and increase the chances of salvaging a match?

Or are they aware that it will likely have a negative impact on performance but feel that the right to express dissatisfaction takes precedence?
