Had a similar problem with FF - where FF would not shut
down properly so had to do alt cont del and force it to shut before could re open. It was basically a memory leak problem with the browser caused by an add on that was not compatible.
Try disabling all your add ons and see if problem persists. If it clears it you just need to track down which add on is causing the problem.
