Although i agree with your point, it was pretty clear Francis was going to go, so you'd hope any negotiations with targets were pretty far down the line when he finally did move...

I prefer to look at it like that, because if thats not the reason, Worthington did really think at the time we had a wealth of midfielders even without Francis...
