... Well worth a punt, it would be in my Top Ten (and I've seen a lot of films).

Riefenstahl always refused to apologise, right until she died (a couple of years ago IIRC). She did some films in Africa, yeah - aesthetically they're very similar to her Nazi films, apparently.

I mentioned Chapaev above - generally considered the high point of Socialist Realist cinema - real 'prestige' film made in 1935, just as Eisenstein's films were being destroyed by Stalin. I watched it a while back - one of the dullest 120 minutes of my life (and that includes the 1994 World Cup final).

FW Murnau's (Nosferatu) film 'Der Letzte Mann' (The Last Laugh) is out on DVD now, too - also very, very good ...

Any other recommendations for me?
