FAO Otto: Paul und Paula

Never heard of it? Supposedly the most famous E. German film ever made! Still runs occasionally in Berlin - I *think* I saw it on German TV once, before I knew what it was - didn't know much German at the time, but the film was clearly set in E. Berlin and I was more interested in the backdrop ... I've seen it's on US DVD, so will maybe one day buy it.

Other great Berlin films: Der Himmel ?ber Berlin and Sonnenallee (Martin Brussig also wrote Helden Wie Wir (Heroes Like Us), which is a very funny piss take of the Stasi). There's not a bad comedy called, I think, "One, Two, Three" with Jimmy Cagney. And I know you're going to mention Berlin Alexanderplatz.
