Ticket prices
?If you want to be in the Premier League, you have got to pay,? said Smith.
?What would you rather have ? Premier League football or cheaper tickets?
I am not sure the two are mutually exclusive. To knock a tenner of adult casual tickets would cost in the region of a million pounds a year.
We will be debt free at the end of the next financial year so presumably saving considerable interest payments.
If we stay in the Prem. we will be guaranteed almost 20m extra on what we received for finishing 12th last season. Considerably more for each place above the bottom.
After some pretty grim years we went down to the 3rd flight for the first time in 50 odd years. The first game was a sell-out 25700. We lost 7-1 and the next game was sold out (25400) to home fans. As near as matters it has been sold out ever since. Perhaps the Spurs cup game shows if you take the piss sentiment can change very quickly.
I like our major shareholders. I believe they are genuine fans and are not seeking to profit from their investment in the club. However, partly because of the above fan loyalty getting them through the darkest days their investment is now worth tens of millions more than their initial outlay. I accept if they never cash it it remains only a paper profit but it is still millions of pounds profit they have an option on is they so choose.
We can never compete on an equal footing with the champions league clubs or those with billionaire owners and a million won't change the world against the others.
Supply and demand favours the high prices but it may not always be the case.
I am a st holder who occasionally buys casual tickets for visiting family.
