Our current squad would run riot on the championship

Although that's not really the point as we're currently in the premier league, and obviously want to do all we can to stay there (without destabilising the club in the style of pompey etc and ending up in the very lower leagues like coventry/bradford are now, who not that long ago used to enjoy premiership income streams).

We did arrive in the prem much earlier than planned, thanks Lambert/Culverhouse (and McNally obviously), and would love to stay there as long as possible, but I'd be happier not to gamble our future on a last ditch attempt to scrape through this year, and instead come back stronger like West Ham seem to be doing this season
