he was snetanced to a custodial sentance for firing on two joyriders who broke through a checkpoint in belfast. they didnt stop and drove through. He had to make the toughest call you can make, a snap decision "is there an immediate threat to life and if so do I open fire" - which he did. It was prioved they were unarmed and just kids. He went to prison for it, harsh as it seems, because the environment he was in, would have influenced his decision to fire.
