it's as much about distance from an event i guess

we used to sponsor a womans refuge in kosovo which has now turned into an orphanage (the women lost their menfolk in the war) and now they look after about 40 orphans or special needs kids. the director asked me a while back if i wanted to accompany them all on day out one summer, i said "where to?" and she replied to prekaz village which she explained was where the serbs massacred an entire family of over 60 members. i was taken aback, why on earth would you want to subject the kids to that? can't you try and move on and not instil your hatred in your children. then i thought perhaps if i'd lived through it i wouldnt have the luxury of the "supposed" moral high ground.
