It's a meanlingless statistic though, right?

I think I must be misunderstanding something. If we beat Swansea and draw against Man U, that's 3 points. Not 1.5 points per game. 3 from one and 0 from the other. Deciding we'll get 14 points from the rest of the fixtures, fine, but saying we'll get 0.6 of a point from Man U is rubbish, how is it different to saying we'll get 14 points from Wigan?
