the overriding principle behind this tax is the more expensive the house you own the more

money you are able to contibute to society - be that at a local level* with your council tax, or a national level with a proposed mansion tax

and i've addressed your issue with it being based on the value of your property only in at least 2 posts already - ease of collectability and valuing of property as an asset

if you're complaining that you're going to be hit by it because Gittie towers is worth at least ?2m then i have very little sympathy - you can afford it, and if not buy a slightly smaller and cheaper house

*though most funding for local councils comes from national government grants i think
