It's more unequal but the stats are similar really over the last 10 years

3 different clubs have won La Liga and 3 different clubs Premier League. Since the Premier League began in 92/93 there has only been 4 winners. In that same time period there has been 5 winners of La Liga.

Before the inception of the Premier League, England's top division was one of the most competitive in the world, where anybody really could beat anybody with perhaps the exception of Liverpool's dominance.

As for the talk about attendances, Spain is far from the worst offender in the world. Remember England do not dominant on this score, Germany well ahead in terms of both attendance and atmosphere and they have a league which is exciting for all the teams competing in it as it's pretty even compared to other European leagues.

As for talk of local pride, I doubt anywhere in the world can match the local pride of Athletic Bilbao who have remained in the top division in Spain since it's beginnings despite never picking a player without Basque nationality. Imagine the pride in achieving that. You won't find many Barca or Real fans around those parts.

Other regions are also immensely proud of their football clubs. Oviedo, Gijon, La Coruna, Betis in Sevilla all some of the most visceral support around.
