Most offers on ebay are derisory anyway, if it's an item that people want, it's ultimately better to let it run
Plus there's the surprise factor. I recently sold my cowon d2, and only wanted about ?40 for it, cos it was nearly two years old. I was quite honest on the auction, and even felt guilty when it finished on ?82
If it was me, I'd tell him to bid on it, like you say
