Hate to get back to the culture of guns in the US but........

the whole reasoning of the founding fathers of the US was to put in place legislation that stopped future oppressive (US) govenments from having too much power over the people.

Power Corrupts, always has, always will.

The principle is more of a balance of power.

With freedom comes a price...........the small minority of crazy people obviously.........

But it has worked to a degree.......... the US has basically stayed a place where reasonable freedoms can be expected........and govenments have to be careful to not upset the people too much.
They have been forced by reasonable protest to change many of their civil rights for the better.

Nothing is clear cut..........life is full of gray areas.
