The sheer beauty of the crisp skin in full view, fat-covered roast spuds and baconed legs with the breast above. Stunning. Makes one feel so intoxicated with the joy of eating and yet at the same time so insignificant a part of nature's rich and varied menu.

You should feel privileged to eat it, and just after the winter solstice too. Very rare.
