Some rambling thoughts............ .(Haterz move on)

The fact we were without Barnett, Drury, Crofts and Surman yesterday shows how deep our squad quality is.
Thats a lot of quality talent missing.

There may be other teams who we could argue have a better 11 but Im not sure many teams have as many players who are really solid at this level as we do.
When fit we might have 23+ players who (when fit) would get into most teams in this division.

I am assuming that Lambert is basically counting on Korey Smith as the back up RB as he doesn't seem too worried about covering R Martin (who has a dead leg from the coventry game BTW)

I have a feeling that Nelsons solid performance yesterday might have saved Lambert some money.

Obviously he is very happy with Ward and Barnett but I got the feeling he might have been looking for another CB option while offloading at least 2 of the current CBs.

I have no idea what is going on with Zak Whitbread?
There were rumors a while back that he has been told he can leave which kind of make sense with the permanent signing of Barnett.
The worry is the ban Barnett is going to get for his ball throwing strop.
I am thinking they could make an example of him and it could be pretty severe.
It has to be 3 games or more...... at least.
Are there any previous incidents equivalent to this?
If so, what bans did they get?

The fact Nelson came straight in with little playing time ahead of Askou probably seals the fate of Askou.
Lambert just doesnt fancy him or maybe his attitude. (stems back to the scum reserve match from last season where Lambert read the riot act)

Does Lambert see Nelson as a good squad player but maybe not good enough to take us to the next level.
Obviously a good solid pro with a lot of heart but maybe he wants someone a bit younger as the 3rd choice solid CB.
(maybe an injury free Zak Whitbread type?)
A 3rd choice CB normally gets a lot of playing time during a season with injuries and suspensions.
Lambert has shown with the Doc that he will play someone yet let them go if he thinks he needs to improve the overall quality/age of the squad.

I would asume the one area he won't be looking to buy is Goalkeeper.
With Ruddy, Rudd and Steer we have enough quality unless we sell one of them.
I would assume Rudd might get a start against Orient in the cup.
GKs dont get suspended or injured too much so you can always bring in a quality keeper on a short term emergency loan.
Lots of quality 3rd string keepers in the Prem looking to play some games in front of 25,000+ people.

I think it will be a very interesting transfer window.
We will get an insight into the direction Lambert wants to go in.
Would be very interesting if we got a big offer for one of our players.
Pretty amazing over the past 18 months that clubs who are mostly less successful than us seem to get crazy offers for their players yet its extremely rare that anyone is ever linked to any of our players?

(Chris Martin to Real Madrid doesn't count LOL)

Example Jon Walters........almost three million squid.

Who would you rather have Jon Walters or Grant Holt?

Walters scored 33 goals in his last 152 games

Holt has scored 41 goals in his last 65 games for us.

Martin has scored 28 goals in his last 66 games for us.

On that valuation alone our strikers are worth a combined 10 million.

Or what about the 10 million wonder kid Connor Wickham who has now scored a whopping 4 goals in 43 apps for the scum.
Surely the Emperor has no clothes?

Fuck me, Robert Rosario had a much better strike rate than that.
