I bought a big 'un a while back

It's a 50' Samsung - only 780p though, not that I really care, - and it cost ?400.
It fulfils the main criteria I was looking for, in that it is
a) f**king massive
b) allows me to use my eyes to look at televisual programmes, dvds and pooter games.
I'm sure HD resolution tellies look ace, but mine looks fine to me.
When I was looking for a telly, my mind started to bend with all the chat about LCD, plasma, power usage, minute differences in picture quality etc.
I think most modern tellies will allow you to plug your laptop in (mine does) or play films/view pictures straight from a USB (mine does, and it's an ace feature).
