While I agree its unfair that 2 people earning ?40k will get benefit, when 1 earning ?44k

wouldn't, I don't see why a household with a ?44k income needs them.

I'm sure they are useful, but losing it won't be the end of the world and they'll just need to make some changes, like those of us earning ?10k less than that have to.

Although it shouldn't be too hard to request earning details on the child benefit form to see where the combined income exceeds, say, ?50k.
